Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT)

ESWT stands for Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy, which is a non-invasive medical treatment that uses low-intensity shock waves to improve blood flow to the penis and treat erectile dysfunction (ED).

During the treatment, a device is placed on the penis, which delivers low-intensity shock waves to the area. The shock waves are believed to stimulate the growth of new blood vessels and improve blood flow to the penis, resulting in stronger, longer-lasting erections.

This is very promising for the patient as medications usually only offer a temporary relief from ED or only on SOS basis. ESWT on the other hand gives hope for a relatively permanent cure.

ESWT is a safe and effective treatment option for men who suffer from ED, particularly those who have not responded well to other treatments such as medications or injections. It is a non-invasive procedure, which means that there is no surgery involved and no downtime or recovery time required. Typically, a series of treatment sessions are required, and the treatment is usually completed in a doctor’s office or clinic.

While ESWT has shown promising results in treating ED, it is important to note that not all patients may be suitable candidates for the treatment. Potential risks and side effects associated with ESWT include discomfort during the procedure, bruising, and temporary numbness or tingling in the treated area. But these are very rare as per studies.

Patients considering ESWT for ED should consult with a qualified medical professional (Usually a urologist) to determine if it is the right option for them.
